Mobile vs. Online

Mobile Notary or Online Notary — Which Do You Need?

Texas allows both in-person mobile notarization and Remote Online Notarization (RON) over video. Both are legal — but they're not interchangeable. A will, a hospital signing, an elderly signer, a wet-ink loan closing, or any document where the recipient hasn't confirmed it accepts an electronic record all call for an in-person notary.

Houston's Courier provides dependable in-person mobile notarization — and we'll tell you honestly when your situation is better suited to one method or the other.

Read the Full Comparison

Choose in-person mobile when:

  • The signer is in a hospital, nursing home, or jail
  • You're signing a will or estate documents
  • A lender or title company requires wet-ink signatures
  • The signer isn't comfortable with video and online ID checks
  • Several people need to sign together

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our mobile notary services in Houston.

Yes — that is exactly what mobile notary means. We travel to your home, office, hospital, or any other location throughout greater Houston. Same-day appointments are available. Call (713) 592-0000 to schedule.

Same-day appointments are typically available throughout Houston. Exact arrival time depends on location and current availability. Call (713) 592-0000 for current estimated dispatch times.

You will need a valid government-issued photo ID — a driver's license, U.S. passport, or state ID card. Have your documents ready but unsigned, as the notary must witness your signature in person.

We notarize real estate documents, powers of attorney, wills and trusts, affidavits, contracts, loan signings, healthcare directives, I-9 forms, travel consent letters, and most other documents requiring notarization. Contact us if you have a specific document type not listed.

Yes. Our operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including weekends and holidays. Contact us at (713) 592-0000 or use our contact form to schedule an evening or weekend notary appointment.

A mobile notary fee has two parts: the notarial act itself and a travel fee. Texas caps the notarial fee at $10 for the first signature on an acknowledgment (plus $1 for each additional signature), or a flat $10 for an oath or jurat. On top of that, mobile service adds a travel fee that depends on your location, the document type, and the timing (same-day, after-hours, or weekend). Call (713) 592-0000 or use our contact form for an exact quote.

Our service is in-person mobile notarization — we come to your location and notarize face to face. Texas does permit Remote Online Notarization (RON) over live video, and it can be the right choice for distant or out-of-state signers. But many situations — wills, hospital and jail signings, wet-ink loan closings, or any document where the recipient hasn't confirmed it accepts an electronic record — still require an in-person notary. If you're unsure which you need, call us and we'll help you decide.

No. Under Texas law, a will cannot be executed or notarized online. Wills, codicils, and testamentary trusts are excluded from electronic execution (Texas Business & Commerce Code Sec. 322.003(b)(1)), and a valid Texas will must be signed by the testator in person and witnessed by two witnesses in the testator's presence (Texas Estates Code Sec. 251.051). For estate-planning documents, plan on an in-person mobile notary — and ask us about arranging witnesses.

Yes. We perform bedside notarizations throughout the Texas Medical Center and hospitals across Houston, as well as nursing homes and hospice facilities. We also notarize documents for inmates at Harris County and area jail facilities, subject to each facility's visitation rules and scheduling. Call (713) 592-0000 with the location and document details and we'll coordinate the visit.

Yes. Form I-9 doesn't require a notarial act — there's no notary certificate on it — so when we help with an I-9 we act as the employer's authorized representative, examining the employee's original documents in person and completing Section 2. We do not apply a notary stamp to an I-9, which is correct procedure. This is a popular service for Houston HR departments hiring remote employees.
